High Speed Rail Authority eliminates options requested by
Peninsula Cities
The California High Speed Rail Authority dropped plans to study the putting the train in a tunnel or a covered trench along the mid-Peninsula. The elimination of these alternatives is disturbing and shows that high speed rail will be built as cheaply as possible through our communities. An aerial structure or open trench is planned for Burlingame. However, the California High Speed Rail Authority applied for Federal Funding as follows:

Redefined Design-Build Section ARRA Track 2 Scope
New Infrastructure providing 4 tracks between Brisbane and Redwood Junction is proposed based on the more economical Aerial Structure cross-section as opposed to the Trench solution in some areas such as Burlingame, San Mateo, which would be more expensive.*1(see figure 2)

Los Angeles Business Journal
Governor candidates Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown are taking opposite sides in the debate on plans for a high-speed rail link between Northern and Southern California.
Republican candidate and former eBay Inc. CEO Whitman told the Contra Costa Times that she "believes the state cannot afford the costs associated with high-speed rail due to our current fiscal crisis."
Whitman's home community of Atherton in one of the Peninsula cities that is actively opposing plans to run the rail across their borders.
Democrat candidate and Attorney Gen. Brown backed high-speed rail in 1982 as governor and through a spokesman called the current plan a "bold" one "we should find a way to make work."
The proposed $43 billion high-speed rail would connect the San Francisco area and Los Angeles and is due to begin construction in 2012.

Mission Statement
We are a group of concerned citizens dedicated to helping educate the community about potential impacts of the California High Speed Rail Project. We oppose any above-ground High Speed Rail through the middle of our communities because of the detriment this will pose to the connectivity of our neighborhoods.
